AIDS panel nominee withdraws -- The Washington Times
"I do not consider myself anti-gay. I am, however, anti-HIV/AIDS. The three infected people in our family ... would not wish this disease on any other human being," he wrote.
Word of his withdrawal came after White House spokesman Ari Fleischer sternly chastised Mr. Thacker for his use of the phrase "gay plague."
"The views that he holds are far, far removed from what the president believes," Mr. Fleischer said. "Those words are as wrong as they are inappropriate. And they are not shared by the president.
"The president's view is totally the opposite of that. The president's view is people with AIDS need to be treated with care, compassion, and that's why his budget has provided so much money to help in the fight against AIDS."

my response to a letter to the editor in today's globe-gazette. pathetically, it's 393 words. 93 more than they'll accept from online readers. well, phooey on them then. editing out 93 words would essentially destory the gist of the piece. right? judge for yourself.

A recent letter asked where's the outrage? Well - look around you. There's outrage all around this great country. There's even more outrage all around the world. We need to stand up against these lies, lies costing us more than we can afford. When it's just as easy to stop this madness before it gets out of control is making it all the more difficult to swallow that this is actually happening
The activation of the 1133rd proves that this 'war' is hitting home. The rhetoric behind getting us into Iraq and those oil fields hasn't phased our patriotic duty to support our people in uniform. That's good. What's not good, is the misguided efforts of some people to perpetuate this propaganda that Iraq is a threat to our freedom, when we all know that is simply not true. Remember the first time, when we were all 'outraged' about babies being ripped out of incubators in Kuwait by Iraqi soldiers? Then it was uncovered too late that it was all just some ad agency's fabrication. The flimsy reasons we're hearing this time to send our children to what is going to be a bloodier war than anybody has even thought to realize, are the products of the imagination of the same liars in power the last time.
The American people have spoken. Look at every poll taken in the last 10 days. We'll support a war with Iraq when the members of the U.N. Security Council say so. Just because Britain is on our side, doesn't negate the demand we do not act alone. This notion of anti-war sentiment being the same as pro-Saddam is not only ludicrous, but laughable
Where is the outrage is a question I ask myself every day. Every time I turn on CNN or MSNBC, where it's impossible to not see junior's face a hundred times repeating his infantile desire to beat the man who almost killed his father. This isn't about WMD. This is about oil and revenge. The sooner you all wake up and smell the coffee, the sooner we can get back to work at bringing this country back to it's rightful place as the global leader it was before January 2000. Because as it stands now, we are turning (fast, I might add) into the very scum we're sending troops like the 1133rd to fight.

"Anxiety about the economy and a threatened war in Iraq lie behind President Bush's 29 percent plunge in job approval in 16 months, observers say....Bruce Buchanan, a presidential scholar at the University of Texas at Austin, says Americans are taking a second look at controversies over Bush's domestic proposals, now that fears of terrorist attacks have diminished....Only 46 percent want force if inspectors find Iraq hiding "the ability to easily make weapons." Iraq's failure to prove the absence of weapons of mass destruction — the cornerstone of Bush's demands — warranted the use of force for only 29 percent of those asked. Antiwar sentiments have started to surface, as well. The Pew survey found 53 percent of respondents believed Bush had not clearly explained the rationale for using U.S. military forces to oust Saddam — up from 37 percent who expressed that sentiment in September....Only 36 percent of [Gallup] respondents said they would "definitely vote" for Bush in 2004. watching cbs cuz the local nbc affiliate (kttc) is doing some cancer telethon or somethin. so there's no russert today. boo hoo. he always makes for a good practice session of what to hate about the poopyheads. btw, i started FIELDS OF POOPY. i'll usually lift quotes out of bushwatch or buzzflash, or a letter to the editor somewhere. letters to the editor are a good way of getting the feel of what 'the people' are saying. a whole lot better than these fuckn polls, of which 50% responded as republicans to online questionnaires. please. gimme their words. not some setup question designed to get the answer you want. how stupid do these pollsters really think we are??
