nice try arlene. only ... had this war been about iraq's invasion or about weapons of mass destruction, the sentiment by the iraqi people probably wouldn't be justified. but that's not the case now is it.
DesMoinesRegister.com | Opinion How poignantly prophetic and timely was the April 17 Register headline, "Anti-U.S. Feelings Grow." The story continued, "Just days ago, U.S. troops were cheered and kissed as they destroyed the symbols of Saddam Hussein's regime. Today, after a week of chaos, it's a whole different story."
Timely, because we were in the midst of Holy Week, and, symbolically, this headline could have been written nearly 2,000 years ago about the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem. It was on Palm Sunday when nearly everyone turned out to welcome him, cheering, kissing and waving palm branches. By Friday, they had crucified him.
People, it seems, have changed very little in their gratitude and respect over the centuries, allowing personal discomfort to cloud reason and good judgment. Like the fickle people of Jesus' day, the dissident people of Iraq have deliberately closed their eyes to their great release from a regime controlled by a barbaric, evil dictator, and are once again turning on their liberator.
