Winning through education
By DAVE SCHMIDT, Mason City
The two letters, one by Ms. Funk about changing her views on Operation Iraqi Liberation, er, Freedom, and one by Mr. Watson, bordering on the same topic, forced me to voice my opinion.
Ms. Funk, the views you had about this war in Iraq certainly weren’t based upon how you felt about our fine young men and women in uniform, but rather how they were sent there in the first place, correct?
We all support our troops. But that certainly doesn’t negate the fact that we were conned for our support of the decision to attack.
And Mr. Watson obviously believes that we’re fighting the war on terrorism in Iraq. Nothing could be further from the truth. No Iraqi was ever connected to the attacks on the World Trade Center or any other terrorist event. To say that we should be glad our soldiers are in Iraq to prevent terrorists from striking here is simply absurd.
How many times have you heard this administration tell us since we invaded, it’s not a question of IF, but WHEN the next attack will occur, and how many times has our threat level been raised? How many flights have been canceled? Please. If you’re going to have an opinion on this war, be informed without the fog of propaganda.
Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terrorism, which, if you think about it, is a fraud anyway. Terrorism isn’t an enemy, but rather a method used by our enemies. If the “war” could be won, don’t you think the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would have ended long ago? It’s like a war on crime or the war on drugs: You can’t win by using violence; you win by good education.
